Sealants
JB Water Weld
JB Water Weld is my #1 recommendation for sealing the seams on your new chest freezer.
- One 2 oz. tube ofJB Water Weld will cover about 16 inches of seams
- A 15 cu. ft. Whirlpool needs 25 – 30 tubes to seal all seams, including those around the top wall.
- The number of tubes will vary depending upon how much putty you use

Pump / Filter for Keeping Your Water Clean
MarineLand Magnum Polishing Pump/Filter
- 290 gallons per hour
- Use the included polishing filter
I have been using this Marine Land pump/filter for more than two years now, and it is still working great!
It is an essential piece in keeping your water clean. You’ll still need to add a sanitation method- and my top pick is the JED 203.
Circulating water helps reduce or eliminate ice buildup in your chest freezer.

- Keep one on hand
- I like swapping between two filters at each cleaning
Ozone Generator
A2Z MP-3000
If you want another option besides the JED 203, the MP-3000 is a good choice and is far superior to the Aqua-6 and Aqua-8 models, which are designed for use with food and in the kitchen.
The MP-3000 has a stronger pump than the Aqua 6 and 8 models and allows the ozone output tube to be under as much as
20 inches of water instead of the 4-inches on the Aqua models.
The significant difference between this unit and the MP-1000 is that it has a “continuous run” feature, which is necessary for setting up your system to work without having to manually run it each day.
However, you ‘ll still need to order a heavy duty appliance timer to turn it off and on for the amount of time needed each day.
This unit is a good choice for systems indoors, in the garage, or a covered porch. It is not designed to be exposed to the elements. If your system is outdoors, or you want a more compact case, or a unit that is a bit easier to set up, the JED 203 is a much better choice. See my main page.

Pond Liner
EDPM 10 x 15
This size works well for 15 cubic foot chest freezers.
A liner is essential if your chest freezer has a bare metal interior, otherwise impurities in the material will corrode from the water, eventually leak, and damage or destroy your chest freezer.
EPDM is compatible with ozone, epsom salts, and H2O2.
Do *not* use chlorine with EPDM because it will cause the material to degrade over time.
Transfer Pump
Liberty 331
If you want a quick and easy way to get water out of your chest freezer to another location, especially if it needs to go uphill, this is the pump to use.
I bought mine in August of 2017 when I lived in an apartment and had my chest freezer in the living room. It allowed me to pump water from the bathtub down the hall and to the chest freezer.
It can move water out of your chest freezer up to 100′ uphill.
It has a 3/4 inch fitting, however, because the Liberty 331 is strong enough to collapse a standard garden hose it is a good idea to buy either a suction hose meant to be used with transfer pumps or a heavy duty garden hose. You only need a short (12-15′) hose for the intake.
A standard garden hose can be used for the output.
This pump is *not* submersible, so it should be placed on the floor outside of the chest freezer where there is not risk of it falling in.
It is fairly loud, but I never had any complaints from my neighbors.
The pump has a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
