JB Water Weld
JB Water Weld is my #1 recommendation for sealing the seams on your new chest freezer.
- One 2 oz. tube of JB Water Weld will cover about 16 inches of seams
- A 15 cu. ft. Whirlpool needs 25 – 30 tubes to seal all seams, including those around the top wall.
- The number of tubes will vary depending on how much putty you use

AquaLogic
This Aqua Logic temperature controller the first upgrade I made to my chest freezer setup in 2016. I have the same unit today and it is still working great. It is very to program and very accurate.
- High-end professional grade controller
- Titanium sensor
- Hard plastic box
- This is the one I use
- F / C
- Variance of 2 degrees

Inkbird 308 (with or without WiFi)
The Inkbird temperature controllers are an affordable option that have been used and recommended by dozens of members in my Facebook group. Be CERTAIN to purchase the controller with a silicone cover over the sensor. NOTE: Exposure to sunlight can damage the LED display.
- Affordable controller
- Wi-Fi access
- Can be controlled from your phone

MarineLand Magnum Polishing Pump/Filter
Circulation and filtration are essential to keep the water clean in your cold plunge. I used a Marine Land pump/filter for 4-years before upgrading to a larger pump and filter (See my DIY plans in the above section for more info). This is an easy option to install and maintain. You’ll still need to add a sanitation method – and my top pick is the JED 203. Circulating water helps reduce or eliminate ice buildup in your chest freezer.
- 290 gallons per hour
- Use the included polishing filter

MarineLand Replacement Filter
- Replacement filter
- Keep one on hand
- I like swapping between two filters at each cleaning

A2Z MP-3000 Ozone Generator
If you want another option besides the JED 203, the MP-3000 is a good choice and is far superior to the Aqua-6 and Aqua-8 models, which are designed for use with food and in the kitchen.
The MP-3000 has a stronger pump than the Aqua 6 and 8 models and allows the ozone output tube to be under as much as 20 inches of water instead of the 4 inches on the Aqua models.
The significant difference between this unit and the MP-1000 is that it has a “continuous run” feature, which is necessary for setting up your system to work without having to run it each day manually. However, you‘ll still need to order a heavy-duty appliance timer to turn it off and on for the amount of time needed each day.
This unit is a good choice for cold plunges that are well protected from the elements. It is not designed to be exposed to rain, heat, cold, etc. If your system is outdoors, or you want a more compact case, or a unit that is a bit easier to set up, the JED 203 is a much better choice (see the In-House products above).
Parts Included
- MP Series ozone generator
- MP Series operation manual
- 5 feet of flexible tubing
- Two 2” oblong diffuser stones
- Spare fuse
- Fan filter replacement
Warranty
The MP-3000 ozone generator has a one-year full parts and service warranty, and the company offers a 30-day money-back guarantee! Return your unit in new condition and receive a refund minus a 10% restocking fee. Shipping is paid by the customer.

EDPM 10 x 15 – Pond Liner
This size works well for 15 cubic foot chest freezers. A liner is essential if your chest freezer has a bare metal interior; otherwise, impurities in the material will corrode from the water, eventually leak, and damage or destroy your chest freezer. Chest freezers with white enamel interiors are also susceptible to damage and surface rust and should have a liner. See my post on the Articles table for a comparison of the four recommended liner options.
EPDM is compatible with ozone, Epsom salts, and H2O2.
Do *not* use chlorine with EPDM because it will cause the material to degrade over time.

Liberty 331 – Transfer Pump
If you want a quick and easy way to get water out of your chest freezer to another location, especially if it needs to go uphill, this is the pump to use. I bought mine in August of 2017 when I lived in an apartment and had my chest freezer in the living room. It allowed me to pump water from the bathtub down the hall and to the chest freezer. It can move water out of your chest freezer up to 100′ uphill.
It has a 3/4 inch fitting; however, because the Liberty 331 is strong enough to collapse a standard garden hose, it is a good idea to buy either a suction hose meant to be used with transfer pumps or a heavy-duty garden hose. You only need a short (12-15′) hose for the intake. A standard garden hose can be used for the output.
This pump is *not* submersible, so it should be placed on the floor outside of the chest freezer where there is no risk of it falling in.
It is fairly loud, but I never had any complaints from my neighbors.
The pump has a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
